BBQs Skittle The Old Foe NEW!
The first day's play in Round 4 saw the BBQs continue their pleasing early season form in their match against arch-rivals
DY RSL. After winning the toss, stand-in captain Jason Perry sent Dee Why in to bat in sunny conditions. However, dark clouds
soon rolled in, which proved to be an ominous sign for Dee Why.
The BBQs showed considerable mercy when skittling their
opponents for a paltry 42. Things could have been worse for Dee Why, with Perry graciously allowing Dee Why's No.10 to arrive,
get his whites on, then pad up: all after the 8th wicket had fallen. Ten minutes later, upon his arrival at the crease, the
No.10 asked for a runner - talk about trying to stretch the friendship! At the BBQs, the only thing we hate more than left-hand
batsmen (we have none in our side) are runners, so naturally this request was flatly denied.
But the morning belonged to Scott
Waygood, who claimed his maiden "Michelle" ( 5-for ) in style. His 8.2 overs yielded the outstanding figures of 7/18, and
created a new team record for the best bowling in an innings in the process. He was more than adequately supported by fellow
opening bowler Mike Adams, who bowled better than his 2/19 would suggest. The boys were flawless in the field, with catches
being held by Mitchell Finch (2), Dan Rodgers, Dan Waygood, Scott Waygood and Brett Holliday.
In reply, the BBQs reached 8/184
by the close of play. Holliday and Adams set up the first innings win by surviving the initial 15 overs. After Adams dismissal,
wickets fell consistently but the team managed to carry its momentum right the way through until the close of play. Holliday
played himself back into some form with a determined 40, laying the groundwork for some big hitting later in the day from Mike
Ford (17) and Matt Seagg (26) who flew in all the way from Iraq to make his debut for Team BBQ. Perry played a captain's knock
late in the day and remains 47*, with Todd Schuiling to join him at the crease next Saturday.
